I used to think the Nazca lines were just simple drawings until I saw the actual scale
I always figured those Nazca lines in Peru were like, big but not huge. Then I watched a documentary last week that showed a satellite image with a person standing next to one of the hummingbird figures. Turns out that thing is over 300 feet long. I had no idea some of the lines stretch for miles across the desert floor. It's wild how they kept those patterns straight without any aerial view back in 500 AD. What really got me was learning they found a new geoglyph just last year using drones. Has anyone else been surprised by the actual size of an ancient site after seeing it in person?

Are you saying they only found that new one using drones? Because that makes me wonder how many more are still out there that we just can't see from the ground. It blows my mind that they were able to map out such precise straight lines and shapes without any kind of bird's-eye view. Did the documentary mention how they think the ancient people kept their lines so straight over such long distances? I feel like that would be harder than drawing the animals themselves.

No way, that's wild lol. Makes you wonder if there's a bunch more just hiding under the dirt or something waiting for a drone to find them.

Did you try looking up the rope trick they used? I remember reading somewhere they stretched tight ropes between stakes to keep the lines perfect. Worked for me when I tried painting a straight line across my whole bedroom wall once lol.
