Got burned by scope creep until a writer in Santa Fe showed me her simple trick
I was always saying yes to extra revisions for free until I met this freelance copywriter at a coffee shop on Central. She told me to put a clause in my contract that caps revisions at 3 rounds, then charge per additional round after that. After I tried it on my next 2 projects, I stopped losing money on nitpicky clients. Has anyone else found a way to set better boundaries without scaring off new people?

Has that really been working out for you long term, or did you run into some clients who still pushed back? I tried something similar a few years ago and it helped, but I still had a few people who would drag out each round of edits until the final day and then claim they needed more. It's tough because you want to be fair but also protect your time. I wound up adding a clause that says any changes after the final revision have to be completely new requests, not just reworded old ones. That seemed to weed out the worst of it for me.

Oh man, I gotta be honest here. Three rounds of revisions before charging more sounds fine on paper but what happens when a client comes back and says "oh I just need one tiny tweak" like 8 times in a row? I feel like some people will just find ways around it no matter what you put in the contract. Plus I've seen folks get all weird about their work being "capped" and it scares them off before they even sign. Not saying it's a bad idea but it's not some magic fix for every situation lol.
