Graphic design gig went sideways at Old Town coffee shop

I was editing a logo mockup at Flying Star on Central when my laptop froze with the file unsaved. Had to redo the whole thing from scratch in 45 minutes using just the client's rough sketch on my phone. Anyone else had a near miss like that and had to rebuild under the gun?

Oh man that's brutal lol. Nothing like having your computer nope out right when you need it most. At least the phone sketch gave you something to work with, could've been worse.

Wait, has nobody brought up the whole "autosave vs manual save" thing yet? That's the real hidden gem in this conversation, I think. People sleep on how many crashes could be avoided just by getting into the habit of hitting Ctrl+S every few minutes, even when you don't think you need to. It's like training your brain to do it without thinking, almost like a reflex. The phone sketch saved you this time, but next time maybe a quick save before you step away for coffee or a bathroom break could be the difference between starting over or picking right back up.

Disagree entirely. Autosave has saved my hide more times than I can count, especially when I get into a flow and forget to hit save for an hour. Manual saves are great until you have that one moment where you're so focused you don't even think about it, and then the power flickers. I've lost maybe one file in the last ten years to a crash with autosave on, versus the three or four times I forgot to Ctrl+S and lost a bunch of progress back in the old days. The phone sketch is actually a better backup plan than manual saving, because it captures your ideas, not just your file. Autosave plus a quick photo of your screen is way more reliable than trying to train yourself to hit a button every few minutes.

Had a similar meltdown at a coffee shop last year when Illustrator crashed mid edit and lost two hours of work... still haunts me.
