Hot take: Stop emailing me a PDF of your invoice and just send a payment link

I spent 45 minutes last week hunting down a client's check because their PDF invoice had the wrong routing number and now I'm out $850. Why are we still doing this in 2024 when Wave and Square exist for free?

Damn, I feel this so hard. I read somewhere last week that over 60% of small businesses still send PDF invoices, which is just insane to me. Like, you're basically begging for errors with manual entry and a PDF the client has to download and decipher. I'm sorry you had to chase that check, that's a nightmare. Payment links are literally free and they remove so much room for human error on both sides. If a client sends me a PDF invoice now I just reply with a link to my own payment portal and ask them to resubmit. It's 2024, not 1994, let's stop pretending snail mail is professional.

Tbh the 60% stat sounds high, but I think it's actually closer to 40% for businesses that went fully digital. Still way too many PDF invoices floating around though, drives me nuts.

Honest truth is switching to payment links saved my sanity after a similar nightmare.
