My visit to the Sawmill Market food hall made me think about workspace options
I went to Sawmill Market last Tuesday to meet a potential client for coffee. While I was there I noticed how many freelancers were camped out with laptops in the middle of the afternoon. It got me thinking about why so many of us prefer those public spaces over actual coworking memberships. The noise level was pretty high and I saw two people struggling to hear video calls. Has anyone else found a good middle ground between working from home and paying $200 a month for a desk downtown?

Honestly I used to think people were just being cheap when they'd camp out at coffee shops all day instead of getting actual coworking memberships. But last week I had to wrap up some paperwork at a Starbucks and realized I actually got more done there than I do at my $180 a month desk downtown. Something about the background noise and random people around makes me feel less claustrophobic than a silent cubicle farm. It's weird but I think the casual environment actually helps me focus instead of distracting me. Maybe the real middle ground is just finding a spot with decent coffee and not too many screaming kids.
