Picked the $200 logo option, got a stick figure with a sombrero

Had a quick turn branding job last Tuesday, two bids came in: $50 from a guy who seemed rushed, $200 from someone with a slick portfolio. I went with the pricier one, and he sent back a stick figure wearing a sombrero that he called 'a bold cultural mark.' I emailed him twice to ask for a revision, and he replied 'that's the vibe' before going dark for 5 days. Has anyone else gotten a design that felt like a joke but you still had to pay half upfront?
