Sat in the Sawmill Market for two hours and saw something about how we work

I was trying to get some writing done there yesterday and ended up watching people. In that time, I saw at least five different people clearly working on laptops, but they were all just sitting alone. It made me wonder, why do we all go to a busy place just to work by ourselves? Maybe we should set up a real coworking spot for freelancers here in town, somewhere you can actually talk shop. Has anyone tried meeting up with other local freelancers to work together, even just once a week?

Notice how you said it's just wanting company while you work. That's the whole point the original post was making, that we're missing the real company part. A meetup would try to fix that, to turn the background buzz into actual talk. It's not about the noise, it's about making a connection.

It's like we're all paying for the feeling of a shared space (you know, the buzz of other people) but we've forgotten how to actually share it.

Honestly, it's just people watching a screen in a different room... not some big statement on society. Saw the same thing at the coffee shop last week, a dozen folks with headphones on ignoring each other. Maybe they just want the background noise and a change of walls. Setting up a whole meetup sounds like a lot of work for what is basically just wanting some company while you do your job.
