Spent $180 on a lead gen list of "local businesses" and half the numbers were disconnected
So 3 months back I was slow on work and figured I'd try buying a list of local businesses to cold call for freelance gigs. Paid $180 to some site that promised 5,000 verified contacts in the Albuquerque area with emails and phone numbers. Started calling through it and right away something felt off. Out of the first 40 numbers I dialed, 19 were disconnected and 6 were just chain restaurant corporate lines that nobody answers. I looked up a few of the addresses and some of them were empty lots or businesses that closed years ago. The emails were just as bad, I sent out 200 and got 3 replies, all of them asking to be taken off my list. Ended up burning about two full days of calling before I gave up on it. Best leads I've gotten since then came from just showing up at that monthly meetup downtown and talking to people face to face. Did any of you ever buy one of these lists and actually get a gig out of it, or is it all junk?
