The Gold Avenue coffee shop freelancer meetup surprised me last Tuesday

I stopped into Slow Roasted on Gold Avenue for a quick espresso and ended up sitting next to three folks comparing invoice templates on their laptops. One guy does drone shots for real estate, another edits podcasts, and the third does bookkeeping for small shops. They were swapping advice on how to handle late payers, and one mentioned he charges a $25 re-billing fee after 10 days. Has anyone else tried joining a casual meetup like that, or do you all just work from home and miss out on that kind of chatter?

That $25 re-billing fee is smart. I tried a similar trick with my own clients and it cut my late payments by half in two months. The trick is you gotta actually send the invoice again with the fee added, not just threaten it. Most people pay right away when they see the number go up. I found the real gold in those meetups is the random tips like that. You sit at home and you never hear about stuff like charging for your own time. Plus those bookkeepers always know which local businesses actually pay on time. I started going to a Tuesday one near me and now I bring my laptop just to listen.

Went to one of those once and left with a recipe for chili instead of business advice.
