Update: That 'always get a deposit' advice paid off big time
A guy on this forum told me to never start a project without 50% down. I thought it was overkill but I tried it with a big website build last month. Client paid the deposit, then ghosted me 3 days in. I still got $750 for the work I did do up to that point. Has anyone else actually had a client vanish after paying a deposit?

@ivan462 nailed it. I had a client pay the deposit then vanish on a logo design. Kept the money and it covered my time sketching the rough drafts they approved before going silent. Another time someone paid half for a copywriting gig, got two drafts, then stopped answering. That deposit saved me from doing a full rewrite for nothing. People bail after paying sometimes, but at least you aren't stuck eating the loss.

Man, that's wild lol. @schmidt.iris how often do clients actually come back after pulling a disappearing act like that? Feels like if they ghost after paying, they're probably never circling back.
