Just realized I plan paint jobs with a chatbot now instead of a whiteboard
Two winters ago I ran my paint crew the old way. Every Monday we stood around a whiteboard in the shop and mapped out rooms, square footage, and who was rolling where. It took about 90 minutes and someone always had to redraw half of it by Wednesday when a job slipped. Now I type the week into an AI tool, list my three guys and their strengths, and it hands me a schedule in about two minutes. Last month it caught that I had two of my best cutters on the same house in Vancouver while nobody was prepping trim across town. I still tweak its plan by hand, and it does not know a house with plaster walls takes us longer, but for juggling five jobs it saves me close to an hour a week. Curious if anyone here has found a tool that actually learns your crew's pace instead of just splitting hours evenly.
Oh man this hits home. Was doing the same song and dance with my own crews, dry erase board and all, and every Thursday it looked like a bomb went off on it. Started feeding my jobs into one of those tools this past spring and the hours I get back are no joke. Mine does decent at splitting up the work but yeah it has zero clue that some guys are fast on trim and slow on ceilings, so I still go in and shuffle guys around by hand. What got me was how fast it caught a double booking I would have missed, two crews ending up at the same address on different days. That alone paid for the hassle of switching over, honestly. If you find something that actually learns how fast each person works, post it here cause I would try it tomorrow.
