Question about AI coding helpers making devs worse at debugging
I keep seeing posts saying AI code tools are a total win, but I watched my own team change in about 8 months. Two devs on my floor started leaning on Copilot for every function back in March, and by July neither could trace a null pointer without asking the bot first. One of them spent 40 minutes stuck on a simple off by one bug that he would have caught in 5 minutes a year ago. I'm not saying drop the tools, but nobody talks about the skill rot part. Has anyone else seen a real drop in debugging chops on their team after folks started using these daily?
