Saw a self-checkout kiosk with AI vision at a Buc-ee's in Colorado Springs
Stopped at a Buc-ee's off I-25 last Tuesday for gas and noticed their new self-checkout screens scanning items by camera, no barcode needed. I tossed a bag of ice and a fountain drink in the bagging area and it just knew what they were, which felt like magic honestly. There was a small sign saying it runs on some Vision AI model that learns from real store layouts, and it caught a mis-scanned item on my third try without beeping at me. Has anyone else seen these in big gas stations, or is this just a Colorado thing for now?

Learns from real store layouts" sounds like it's one step away from judging my snack choices. I can already see it flagging my third bag of beef jerky and a single banana like I'm some kind of wild animal. Next thing you know it'll start asking if I really need that family size bag of chips for just me. I bet that mis-scan thing was just it being polite about my questionable decision to grab an icee at 8 in the morning. Honestly though, if it can tell the difference between a fountain drink and a slushie, it's smarter than half the people I work with.
