Showerthought: I almost clicked a fake ChatGPT extension link at 11pm and what stopped me
Last Monday I was in bed in Denver scrolling Reddit on my phone when I saw a post about a new Chrome extension that added ChatGPT right into your email. The link looked clean, but the domain had 'gpt' tacked onto the end of a normal sounding name, and the install count was only around 40. I pulled up the Chrome store on my laptop instead and noticed all the reviews came in on the same two days, so I reported it and skipped the install. Two days later the listing was gone, which makes me think I wasn't the only one who flagged it. Has anyone else run into these AI tool links that look fine until you check the dates?

The part about all the reviews coming in on the same two days is the giveaway I look for now too. I heard a security podcast a few months back where a guy said fake extension makers will buy or bot a batch of five star reviews right after they publish, so the dates all clump together. In my experience that pattern shows up way more than you would expect once you start checking. I have also seen ones where the developer name is just a random string of letters, which is another red flag. Your mileage may vary but trusting the review dates has saved me more than once.
