Showerthought: my cousin said AI would write my whole Etsy shop description, here is what actually came out
My cousin Dana, who sells candles in Boise, swore up and down that I should just plug my product list into an AI tool and let it write everything for my Etsy shop, so 2 weeks ago I gave it a shot with all 14 of my listings. What came out was this weird mix of "handcrafted with love" and words I would never use, and it called my $18 soy candle "an exquisite olfactory journey," which is not how anyone I know talks. Has anyone found a good middle ground where the AI gives you a rough draft you can actually fix, or is it better to just write the thing yourself?

Try using the AI as a brainstorm partner instead of a ghostwriter. I do this with my own shop stuff and what works is asking for like 5 short versions of a title or the first sentence, then I steal the one piece that sounds right and write the rest myself. The trick is you can't ask it to write the whole listing, because that's where you get "exquisite olfactory journey" nonsense (seriously, who talks like that about a candle). Feed it your actual words first, like a few phrases you already say to customers, and tell it to keep your tone. It still spits out some junk but you end up with a draft that's 70 percent usable instead of zero.
