Talked to a friend who's a teacher about AI grading essays

She said her school started using a tool called GradeScope last semester, and it cut her weekend work in half. Has anyone else seen AI help with stuff like that, not just the usual business tasks?

Actually, that's a bit off. GradeScope isn't really an AI grading tool, it's more for handling the paperwork side. It scans and sorts student answers so the teacher can grade the same question for everyone at once. The AI part is pretty light, just reading handwriting. The real time save is from the organization, not an AI judging essay quality. Still a huge help, just not in the way most people picture.

Yeah that's a good point. I used it for a class last term and the biggest win was just having all the answers to question 3 in one place. I could set a rubric and click through fast. The handwriting thing messed up sometimes, so we had to check. But grouping the work saved hours.

Totally, the sorting is the real hero. I had a prof who still printed everything and graded with three different colored pens, took him weeks.

Honestly read an article about how these tools change the teaching job. It said the big win is getting back hours of sorting papers, not the grading itself. Teachers can focus on the actual feedback instead of admin work. Makes total sense after seeing my buddy who teaches struggle with that pile every weekend.
