That AI art tool I mocked turned out to be legit for actual work
I spent 6 months calling AI art generators a joke after seeing those wonky hands with 8 fingers. Then my boss handed me a deadline for 15 product mockups in 2 days last month. Used DALL-E for the backgrounds and basic layouts, saved about 10 hours of Photoshop grunt work. Still had to fix some edges but it actually cut my time in half. Has anyone else found a use for AI art beyond the meme stuff?

oh man the hand thing is so real lol. i remember seeing those early ai pics and just dying laughing at the nightmare fingers. but yeah once you actually need to get work done fast it shifts your whole view. i've been using midjourney for quick concept art before i even open photoshop. like rough environment ideas and color palettes to show a client what vibe i'm going for. takes me from staring at a blank canvas for an hour to having something to work with in 5 minutes. the key is treating it like a really fast sketch artist who sometimes draws weird stuff. you still need to know what you're doing to make it look polished.

Wait, your boss gave you 15 mockups in 2 days? That's insane.

Heard a talk from a UX designer who said they treat AI like a junior designer who works way too fast. You still have to double check everything and fix the weird stuff, but the raw volume of ideas is helpful. Your boss asking for 15 mockups in 2 days is basically asking for quantity over quality anyway, and that's exactly what AI is good at. The real skill is knowing which of those 15 actually has something worth keeping. Just have to hope the "hand phase" of AI art is behind us, because explaining to a client why your concept art has six fingers gets old fast.
