Am I the only one who thinks air fryer liners are a waste of money?

I tried those perforated parchment liners last week and my chicken thighs came out soggy on the bottom. Spent $8 on a pack of 50 at the grocery store near my shop, and the first one caught fire when the fan blew it up into the heating element. I just go back to spraying the basket with cooking spray and scrubbing it out after. Has anyone else had bad luck with those things?

Wait, yours caught fire? That's pretty wild for something that's supposed to make cooking easier. I always figured those liners were just a gimmick for people who don't want to scrub a basket anyway.

Had a buddy whos wife used those liners in their air fryer and the whole thing nearly went up in smoke while they were watching TV. She put one of those paper ones in there for some chicken tenders and it just started smoking real bad. They pulled the basket out and the liner was all charred and crumbling. Took them forever to air out the kitchen and clean the burnt paper smell out of the machine. Now they just scrub the basket like normal people and call it a day. Makes you wonder how any of those things pass safety tests, right?

Buddy of mine tried those silicone ones thinking they'd be safer than paper. First time he used it the thing started smoking so bad his wife thought the house was on fire. He pulled the basket out and the liner had melted and fused right to the bottom of the basket. Took him an hour with a scraper and some elbow grease to get the melted plastic off. Now he tells everyone to just spray the basket with cooking spray and move on.
