I finally hit 100 uses on my air fryer without burning anything

The little counter on the side just ticked over, and I realized I've made everything from frozen fries to whole chicken thighs without a single smoking disaster. How many tries did it take you all to stop setting off your smoke alarm?

Just learned to check for grease buildup first.

My first air fryer meal was salmon and it set off the alarm at 15 minutes. @dylan_ward is right about grease, but for fish or bacon, putting a little water in the bottom drawer helps a ton. What do you cook that makes the most smoke?

Totally agree with @maryr43 about the water trick for fish. Honestly, frozen fries or anything breaded sends my smoke detector into a panic every single time. I swear the little crumbs burn up instantly. Chicken wings are the worst offender for me though, all that fat just drips down and starts smoking. Have you tried lining the drawer with foil for messy stuff?

I mean, putting water in the bottom for fish is a total game changer, saved my bacon literally.
