My air fryer chicken was always dry until my buddy roasted me about it

I kept bragging about my air fryer wings but my friend Matt finally tried one and said dude these are like eating a shoe. He asked if I was using any oil at all and I said no isn't that the whole point? He told me to toss them in a tablespoon of avocado oil before seasoning and now they actually come out crispy on the outside and juicy inside. Anyone else stubbornly skip the oil for way too long?

Toss the idea that oil defeats the whole purpose of air frying. A tiny bit of fat is actually what transfers heat evenly and creates that crust you're chasing. Skip it and you're basically just running a tiny convection oven that blows hot air on dry meat.

My buddy Dave tried air frying wings with zero oil and said they came out like chewy shoe leather.
