My air fryer smoked up the whole kitchen when I tried bacon without water
Last Sunday morning I decided to make bacon in my air fryer for the first time. I put 6 strips right in the basket and set it to 400 degrees. Within 5 minutes the whole kitchen was filled with smoke and the fire alarm went off. I learned you need to put a little water in the bottom tray to catch the grease drippings. Has anyone else had a smoky mess with fatty meats in their air fryer?

Did you try starting at a lower temp like 350 to let the fat render slower?

I tried that and my smoke alarm went off so now I just air fry everything.

Yeah 350 is usually my go to for bacon. @casey268 is right about that, it gives the fat more time to render out. I actually do mine at 375 for like 12-15 minutes and flip halfway through. Just gotta keep an eye on it near the end or it'll go from perfect to burnt real fast.
