That neighbor who laughed when I said I preheat my air fryer for 5 minutes every time
Been doing that since day one, figured crispy was crispy. But he pulled out his phone and showed me a video where the temp actually overshoots by 30 degrees if you let it sit empty too long. Said a lot of recipes online are written for cold starts, not hot ovens. Made me wonder how many meals I've been accidentally burning on the outside while leaving the inside underdone. Has anyone else tested this or am I overthinking a $50 kitchen gadget?

Yeah totally did the same thing for months before I noticed my fries were getting torched on the outside.

Bet your fryer's thermostat is off then. Had the same thing happen at my old place and it turned out the sensor was reading like 20 degrees low but only at the top of the oil, so the outside charred before the inside even cooked. Check it with a decent thermometer next time you swap the oil, might save you a headache

Huh, so your sensor might be fine but the whole idea of preheating is just wrong. What made you finally check if the video was legit or just some internet theory?
