Tried air frying a whole chicken for the first time and it actually worked

Last Thursday, I was feeling brave. Had a 4 pound chicken in the fridge and decided to just go for it. Seasoned it with salt, pepper, and some garlic powder. Put it in the basket at 360 degrees. I checked it every 20 minutes. After about an hour and 15 minutes, the skin was super crispy and the meat was totally done. I used a meat thermometer to be sure, it read 165. Couldn't believe how juicy it stayed. Way easier than using the big oven. Has anyone else tried a whole bird? What temp and time do you use?

Oh wow, congrats on the success! But gentle heads up, you might want to double check that temp. Most air fryers run a little hot, so 360 is actually pretty high for a whole bird. I usually do mine at 350 for about 50 minutes per pound, and @craig.parker has a point about spatchcocking to get the skin even. Still, 165 in the breast is perfect if that thermometer is accurate, so you did great for a first try.

Air frying a whole chicken is a total game changer for weeknight dinners. I sometimes spatchcock mine first to get it even crispier all over.

How long does a spatchcocked chicken take in your air fryer, and does it really beat @schmidt.iris's crispy but dangerous method?

Tried spatchcocking once and nearly took my own finger off. My chicken was crispy but my ego was flat for weeks.
