Tried preheating my air fryer basket for 5 minutes before adding food
I kept getting unevenly cooked chicken thighs - crispy on one side but soggy on the other. Last Tuesday I decided to let the empty basket heat up for a full 5 minutes at 400°F before putting the seasoned thighs in. The difference was night and day, they came out evenly browned and crunchy all over. Has anyone else experimented with preheating times for different foods?

I actually tried this after reading an article from a food blog called The Kitchn that said preheating stops the meat from steaming in its own juices. They recommended 5 minutes for chicken and 8 minutes for frozen foods like fries. I've been doing the full 5 minute preheat ever since and my thighs come out way more consistent too.

Nah I was totally in the "just toss it in cold" camp for years. Thought it was a waste of time and energy. But your post and that article changed my mind completely. I tried the 5 minute preheat last week with some chicken thighs and honestly the texture was way better. No more weird rubbery spots or dry edges. The inside was actually juicy too which never happened before. Now I just set a timer on my phone when I turn the air fryer on so I don't forget.
