Vent: My neighbor Deb told me I was ruining my air fryer with olive oil spray

I was showing Deb my crispy tofu trick last Tuesday at her place on Maple Street. She watched me spray the basket with olive oil and went on a whole rant about how the lecithin in the spray ruins the nonstick coating over time. I've been using that same spray for 2 years with zero issues, but now she's got me second guessing everything. Has anyone else had their coating peel after using spray oil?

My neighbor Carol tried the same lecture on me about my cast iron skillet and dish soap six months ago (she's always got a theory about something). It's funny how we all have that one friend who turns a small kitchen habit into a whole conspiracy, isn't it? Honestly, I bet half the air fryer warnings online are just people repeating some random blog post they read once.

Great, now I have to worry about my air fryer having trust issues too.

That whole "trust issues" thing Nathan said is funny but actually true, it really messes with your head when someone plants a doubt like that. The real fix is just switch to a regular spray bottle with plain avocado or canola oil, no propellant or lecithin, it works just as good for crisping without any risk to the coating. I had the same panic last year after a friend warned me, switched to a refillable mister and my air fryer is still going strong with zero peeling.

Bet I've been ruining mine too without even knowing it.
