Dropped $450 on a borescope, best money I've spent in this trade

My old mirror trick finally let me down on a Cessna 172 exhaust valve last Tuesday. I checked twice and still missed a crack that only showed up under direct light. So I bit the bullet and bought a cheap borescope with a phone screen for $450. That thing found a hairline crack in a cylinder wall that I would have never caught otherwise. The owner was pissed about the cost but I showed him the photos and he shut up real quick. Has anyone else had a cheap tool pay for itself on the first job? I'm wondering if I should get the better model now or if this one holds up.

The old mirror trick said goodbye, huh? Guess $450 beats a cracked exhaust valve surprise.
