That 2am gear pin fight on a 737 last Tuesday

Went to swap a landing gear position pin and the cotter key hole was packed with old grease and corrosion, took me 45 minutes and three drill bits to get it out. Anyone else run into seized hardware that looks fine on the outside, and what's your go-to trick to free it up without wrecking the part?
