Got schooled on my wire labeling by a new guy last month
I was finishing a panel in a big house, just using my usual color codes. The new helper pointed out that my system didn't match the schematic the company uses for all their techs. He was right, I was using my own old way from a different shop. Now I spend the extra two minutes to label every wire with the zone number and description, exactly like the manual says. Anyone else have a simple habit they had to unlearn?

Imagine the mess for the next guy, @lucashenderson.

Wait, hold on... @lucashenderson said a different system? Like, not just messy but a whole other way of doing it? That's way worse than I thought. Someone could get seriously hurt trying to figure that out later. How does that even happen on a company job? The new guy was right to say something, no matter how awkward it got. That kind of mix-up is just asking for trouble.

Two minutes per wire adds up fast on a big house job! I can't believe you were using a whole different system than the rest of the company. That's a huge risk for anyone who has to service that panel later. Good on that new guy for speaking up, even if it was awkward. Sticking to the manual is boring but it saves so much trouble down the line.
