Had a talk with a commercial electrician last week that made me rethink my whole approach to panel board termination

He told me half the service calls he gets from alarm guys are from wires that were stripped too far back and left exposed, and now I'm triple checking every single splice on my multi-zone installs.

Laughing at myself @sagejackson because I've totally been that guy with the hack terminations.

Three days at the supply house waiting for that exact roll of 22/4 stranded because I knifed through the jacket 2 inches from the RJ jack. And don't get me started on how many times I've had to re-crimp because the little tab snapped off the plug. @dakota_miller93 you're not alone in that club, we all got a drawer full of "oops" terminations we show the new guys to scare em straight.

Question whether it's really that serious though. Like yeah, exposed copper is bad but alarm wire is low voltage. You're not exactly sending 277 through it. I've seen some pretty rough terminations that still worked fine for years. Maybe he's just trying to upsell his services by making you paranoid.
