Talked to an electrician yesterday who said alarm wire is the same as speaker wire and I nearly lost it
He said 'it's just copper' and that got me thinking about how many times we assume our low voltage stuff is too simple for them to mess up, only to find out they ran 18/2 to a motion detector and now I'm wondering how often other installers have to undo someone else's 'close enough' work?

Just read that @juliaa65's buddy had thermostat wire for speakers and didn't even notice. That honestly sums up the whole problem right there, most people can't tell the difference until it's too late and you're already pulling new cable.

That 18/2 to a motion detector hit close to home, I've definitely been that guy before.

My buddy had a whole house system installed and the guy used thermostat wire for the speakers. Sounded awful and he didn't even notice until I pointed it out.
