An old climber's one-liner about my lanyard setup stuck with me for years
Back in 2014, I was rigging down a big oak in Austin and this retired climber watched me tie in. He said, 'You're making the tree do all the work, but your legs are doing nothing.' He was right, I kept adjusting my lanyard every three feet instead of just setting it once and using my footlock technique. After that, I started practicing standing on my lanyard more and it cut my ascent time almost in half on tall removals. Has anyone else gotten a tip from a stranger that completely flipped their climbing style?

Funny how most people never learn to use their own legs, right?
