Can we talk about how slow tree work permits are now?

I remember when a quick phone call to the city forester got things moving. These days it's all digital portals and auto-replies... you're lucky to hear back in a week. Had to turn down a good removal job last month because the approval came too late. Just feels like the personal touch is gone.

Yeah, the online system is a nightmare. I always call the city forester's office the same day I submit the permit. Got a job approved in two days last week because I pestered them. Sometimes you have to skip the portal entirely and talk to a real person.

Constantly calling might actually slow things down for everyone in the long run.

Come on, the portal is broken half the time. Calling gets you on their radar so your file doesn't just sit there forever. Sorry @the_xena, but sometimes you have to bug them to get anything done.

But from what I've seen, calling all the time just makes more work. It takes staff away from getting through the permit list. In the long run, sticking to the portal might work better for everyone.
