Guy threatened to call the city on me over one low limb, so now I knock on doors first
I was clearing a 40 foot silver maple near Boise last month when the guy next door stormed over and said my climb line was "hanging over his fence like a noose" and he'd call the city if I didn't pack up. Instead of arguing I walked over, knocked on his door, and asked if he wanted to point at the exact limbs that bugged him, and it turned out he just wanted the branch over his grill gone. Now I knock on the two closest doors before I even pull my rope out, has anyone else had a neighbor freak out over a limb that was not even on their property?
Forty feet is a big tree and I get that some folks get nervous when a rope shows up near their yard, but knocking on doors before every job is a lot to take on. I run a small crew outside Nampa and if I stopped to chat with every neighbor who might get weird about a limb, I would never get any work done. The line hanging over a fence is not the same as dropping a limb on someone's property, and most of the time these guys calm down once they see you know what you are doing. Being nice is fine, but letting every nervous neighbor set your routine gives them way too much say over your job.
