Lost a whole Saturday to a dead oak that split sideways on me

Last weekend I took a removal job in Decatur for what looked like a simple dead oak. Got my ropes set and started the top cut, then the trunk twisted and hung up in a neighboring maple about 20 feet off the ground. Took me until 4pm to rig it down piece by piece with a come-along and a second ground guy. My climber called in sick that morning, so I did it solo, which made everything twice as slow. Has anyone else had a dead tree do something totally unpredictable like that, or was it just my bad luck?
