Overheard a landscaper telling his crew to just cut a root flare because it was 'in the way'

Honestly, I was at a job site in Bakersfield and this guy was about to take a saw to a mature oak's base. Tbh, I had to step in and explain how that would basically girdle the tree over time. Has anyone else had to correct another trade on site about basic tree care?

Watched a painter try to wash brushes in a client's koi pond once.

Oh man, @shane_morgan, that's a whole new level of bad... I keep picturing the paint thinner or whatever chemicals sinking into the water. Those fancy koi are super sensitive, right? One drop of the wrong thing could mess up the whole pond's balance. That painter probably just saw water and didn't think at all about the living things in it. The cleanup bill must have been insane.

Honestly the worst part is the paint itself, not just the thinner. All those heavy metals and pigments sinking to the bottom. That stuff gets into the mud and the fish end up eating it, or it poisons the plants they need. It's not a quick fix, you'd probably have to drain and replace the whole pond liner and substrate. That painter wrecked a whole little world because he was lazy.
