Question about the crane job in Waco that made me stop trusting the ground guy's count
Last spring I was doing a removal on a big pecan in Waco and my spotter called the load at 800 pounds, but the pick came off way heavier than that. I had the whole top swinging back at me and came real close to clipping the roof. Turns out he was guessing off the last tree we did, not this one, and nobody wrote anything down. Now I make whoever is counting give me a number and say it out loud twice before I cut. How do you all handle spotters who won't slow down for a real count?

Wow, guessing off the last tree? That is nuts. A pecan top that heavy swinging back at you is scary, and all because nobody took two seconds to write a number down. I make my guy say it twice too, out loud, and if he rushes it I just sit on the saw and wait him out. No count, no cut.
