Talked to an old timer who's been climbing since the 80s and he shook me up
Ran into a guy named Pete at a job site last week. He's been pruning oaks since before I was born. He saw me using a handsaw on a 12 inch limb and told me to stop. Said I'm wasting energy and risking a bad cut. He showed me how to use a pole saw from the ground for anything under 15 feet unless the tree is dead. Never thought about it like that. Now I'm rethinking half my climbs. Anyone else get advice that made you feel dumb about your whole approach?

Oh man, this hits hard. I mean, it's like when you fix your own car for years and then a mechanic shows you you've been using the wrong size socket the whole time. I'd probably have to sit down and rethink my life choices for a solid hour after hearing that. At least now you can save your arms from turning into noodles with a pole saw, right? Maybe old Pete just saved your shoulders from falling off by the time you're his age.

Pole saw is my new best friend, sorry old hand saw.

Ha! So Pete basically told you you've been working too hard your whole life. Sounds like he just saved you from turning into one of those climbers with wrecked shoulders by 50.
