The worst day I ever had was a Tuesday in June up near Bellingham

I was taking down a big dead maple in a tight backyard and my chainsaw chain came off halfway through a cut. Took me almost 2 hours to get it back on because I dropped the bar nuts in the tall grass. Has anyone else had a job just spiral from one tiny mistake like that?

Oh man, I used to think losing small parts was no big deal but this story completely changed my mind. Dropping those bar nuts in tall grass sounds like a nightmare I never want to deal with.

Gotta think about something else too - what if you drop a part and don't even notice until way later? Like you're finishing up and go to put the nut back on and it's just gone. Then you have to backtrack through your whole yard or garage trying to remember where you were standing. I had that happen with a tiny washer from a lawn mower blade once. Spent almost an hour crawling around on my hands and knees before I found it stuck to the bottom of my shoe. Now I use one of those big magnetic pickup tools even for small stuff like that. Makes me wonder how many lost parts are just hiding in plain sight under some leaves or grass.

Heard someone paint their dropped parts bright orange once. Smart move.
