TIL topping a silver maple at my uncle's place in Boise backfired hard
I let my cousin talk me into cutting the top off his silver maple last spring because he wanted more sun on his garden, and within 4 months it threw up about 40 water sprouts straight up like a bad haircut. Now those sprouts are weak and half of them are split at the base after one wind storm. Any tips on fixing a hacked topping job, or is it basically a removal at this point?
