Watched a neighbor in Sacramento try to 'fix' a leaning oak by piling rocks against the trunk for support.
He said 'it's just like a tomato plant' and I had to explain over the fence that you need to stake a tree properly with guy lines, not just prop it up, or you'll girdle the roots and make it way worse, so what's the weirdest tree 'fix' you've ever seen someone try?

That duct tape thing is brutal... I just left my split apple tree alone and it healed up on its own.

My buddy in Modesto tried to "help" his orange tree by painting the trunk white, like he saw in some old gardening book. Said it was to reflect heat. Tree got sunburned anyway and looked ridiculous for a year.

My uncle in Fresno tried to save a split apricot tree by wrapping the whole trunk in duct tape. It just trapped moisture and rotted the bark out in a year. The proper fix is to bolt the split with threaded rods, but you have to let the wound callus, not seal it up. People don't get that trees heal from the outside in, they don't need a bandage.
