Can we talk about the best way to phrase a question when you're stuck on a project?
I was laying tile in a Denver bathroom last week, totally stumped on a weird corner cut, and asking 'what's the dumbest mistake you've made on a job like this?' to a guy at the supply house got me way better advice than just asking for the 'right' way.

That's the only way to get the real tricks.

Nah, you can learn plenty from good tutorials too. Sometimes the "real" way just means doing things the hard way for no reason. Why make it harder than it has to be?

Asking for the worst screw up is a master move. You skip the textbook answer and get the story about the time someone glued themselves to a subfloor. The real trade secrets are just well documented disasters.

Wait, hold on - so you're telling me someone actually glued themselves to a subfloor? I need to hear that story, that's wild. Like were they trying to do some kind of weird crawl space repair or just got careless with a tube of construction adhesive? Because I've seen guys get their boots stuck in fresh mortar but never heard of a full on person-glued-to-floor situation. That must have been one awkward trip to the ER, walking in with a piece of plywood stuck to your pants. No wonder the supply house guy remembered that one.
