Heard a guy at the bus stop say something that rubbed me wrong

Yesterday in Portland I was waiting for the 12 bus and this older dude was talking loud on his phone. He said "asking questions just shows you didn't do your homework, so I never ask." That hit me because I've been in meetings where I stayed quiet to look sharp. But then last week I asked a dumb question at a workshop and three other people said they had the same doubt. Since when did asking become a weakness instead of a way to check your own blind spots? Has anyone else caught themselves holding back a question because of some unwritten rule?

Ugh, that bus stop comment would've stuck with me too. I've totally been there, sitting quiet in meetings just to look like I got it all figured out. Honestly, the people who ask the "dumb" questions are usually the ones saving everyone else from a mess later lol.
