Just hit 10,000 subscriber hours on YouTube and it's wild
I started my channel about woodworking tips 2 years ago just for fun. I checked my analytics yesterday and saw I crossed 10,000 subscriber hours last week. That's like 416 days straight of people watching my videos. I never thought anyone would care about how I sharpen chisels or fix jigs. Has anyone else had a random milestone sneak up on them like that?

Whoa, hold on there, I gotta say something. You said 10,000 subscriber hours, but I think you meant 10,000 watch hours. Subscriber hours isn't really a thing on YouTube, it's just total watch time from everyone, not just subscribers. That mistake is super common, so don't worry about it. But yeah, hitting that goal is a huge deal, especially for a woodworking channel. It just creeps up on you when you're not looking, right?

Wait, are you talking about the 10,000 total watch hours for the YouTube Partner Program, or the 1,000 subscriber requirement? Because I've seen people confuse those two all the time, and it makes a big difference in how you plan your content. For a woodworking channel, I'd bet the watch hours come way easier than the subs, since those build projects can be pretty long and people actually watch them through. Has it been easier for you to stack up hours or get new subscribers?

Nah, I gotta push back on this one. Subscriber hours might not be an official term but it should be, because your subs are the ones actually carrying your channel. If you've got a bunch of randoms watching a single video but your subs are sleeping on everything else, that's a red flag. Watch hours from non-subs are fluff, they bounce in and bounce out and never come back. Subs are the ones sticking around for the long grind, and their watch time is way more valuable for building a real community. Focusing on total watch hours just makes people chase viral one-offs instead of consistent content that actually grows the subscriber base. Hitting 10k watch hours feels good until you realize half of them came from one random search result that died after a week.
