Just realized hotel front desk staff know more than any review site, here's my 3am Dallas story
I got stranded in Dallas during a storm last March and the front desk guy at a random Marriott not only found me a last minute car rental but told me which gas stations were safe, so is it smarter to just ask the staff upfront instead of reading 200 reviews, or am I overthinking this?

Last year I was a review junkie, I would read everything before booking. Then I had a layover in Chicago and the front desk guy told me the hotel restaurant was overpriced and pointed me to a taco place three blocks away that wasn't even on the map. That changed my whole view. Those folks see the real stuff every day, the good and the bad, and they have no reason to sugarcoat it. So yeah, I'm with you now, just ask them first and save yourself the hours of scrolling.
