My old way of asking questions was holding me back

I was helping my friend plan a trip to Portland last week, and I kept asking 'What should we do?' which just got us stuck. I switched to asking 'What's one thing you really want to see there?' and it got us a solid list of three places in ten minutes. Has anyone else found a better way to ask for specific info instead of getting vague answers?

Yeah asking "what's the biggest risk here" gets way more useful answers than "any concerns

That switch from "what should we do" to "what's one thing you really want to see" is the whole key. I run into this at work all the time. Asking "what are your thoughts on this project" gets me nothing. But asking "what's the first thing you'd change about this draft" forces a real answer. It makes people pick a starting point. What other specific questions have worked for you?

Try "what's the worst that could happen" instead.
