Question about keeping up with running after a long break

I started by running just a mile each day, but how do you make it a habit?

Oh man, getting back into it is the hardest part lol. I had to restart last year after an injury and just forcing myself to do that one mile, even super slow, built the routine. Setting my gear out the night before weirdly helped me not talk myself out of it. The habit really clicks after a couple weeks when you stop dreading it and start feeling off if you skip a day.

That "one mile" thing just burned me out.

Yeah but it doesn't have to be a literal mile. That messed me up at first too. I started with just ten minutes, even if it was mostly walking. Staring at the distance on my watch made it feel impossible. Focusing on the clock instead of the map took all the pressure off for me.

Totally. That gear trick is a lifesaver. It's like you've already made the choice before your brain can argue. Elliot_wright2 is right about ditching the distance focus too. I swapped to just putting on my shoes and getting out the door for twenty minutes, no route planned. Some days that's a slow jog, others it's just a walk with a few running steps thrown in. The goal is just to break the seal and do the thing.
