Rant: Night shift nurse told me my report was 'too nice' and I blew off 3 hours of sleep fixing it

She said I was giving patients false hope by softening bad news, so I swapped my wording to plain facts like 'your labs are bad' instead of 'we're watching things' and now I'm wondering how many other soft phrases need to go, has anyone else had to strip the kindness out of their communication just to be heard?

I saw some article about how doctors have to use super blunt language now because patients tune out softer phrasing, so maybe it's less about being mean and more about what actually sticks. Kinda wild that "we're watching things" turns into a filter for bad news, but I get how patients might hear that as everything's fine.
