Almost ruined my whole night shoot at Cherry Springs last month because of one dumb mistake
So I drove 4 hours out to Cherry Springs State Park in PA for the new moon last month, right? Setup went fine, scope was tracking good, and I started a 6 hour run on Andromeda around 9pm. Around 11 I look up and notice a faint orange glow creeping up from the tree line behind me. Turned out to be a crew setting up a generator and work lights at a campsite about 300 yards away. I lost almost 40 minutes of usable subs before I walked over and asked them to kill the lights, which they did, super nice about it. But here's the thing, I checked the park's event calendar and their dark sky rules page before booking and there was zero mention of any construction or camping group. Has anyone else run into random light sources at Cherry Springs, and is there a better way to check before making the drive?
