Can we talk about the night my neighbor Gary pointed a $12 red dot at Saturn
Last month I was out back in Tucson with my little 6 inch reflector and Gary from next door wandered over while I had Saturn in the eyepiece. He squinted, then pulled a cheap laser pointer off his keys and said "that dot is just as bright as that ball, so how far is it really?" I walked him through the math on light minutes right there on the patio, and something clicked for me about why people doubt these photos. Now I want to know, what's the one fact you use with a skeptic to show them a real scope view matches the NASA shots?
