I finally saw Andromeda from a dark field in Utah and found out my backyard shots were mostly noise
Drove 90 minutes outside Moab last weekend with just binoculars and a $40 tripod, and M31 showed up as a real smudge instead of the gray blob I keep getting at home. My backyard stack from March had 200 frames and still looked worse than 10 seconds in that field. How far do you all drive for a dark sky before it stops being worth it?

Man, 90 minutes is nothing, I'd drive 3 hours for skies that dark.
